DEPARTMENTAL HISTORY
From its infancy this august institution has tried to fulfil the quest and desire for Odia Language and literature among the students of Nayagarh and its periphery. Years together this college has served for the improvement and growth of this mother vernacular. Odia is read here as a compulsory as well as an optional subject from 1961-62, the session of its affiliation to Utkal University. However, from the session 1969-70 Odia Honours got University affiliation and Government concurrence for 16 seats. With the pressing demand from the students in 1981-82 another 16 seats were added to the Honours strength increasing it to 32 seats. In 2016 another 06 seats were added so that Honours strength increasing to 38 seats. With the increasing demand of the subject the college has opened MA in Odia in the Academic Year 2019-20. This course was opened in Self-finance mode after getting approval from the Department of Higher Education, Odisha with 16 seats.
For all these years the students those who have passed out with Odia Honours from this institution have established themselves both the state and in National level. With the glorious past the teachers have exhibited their excellence in teaching and in the sphere of research of Odia language and literature. Their brilliance in research work has given the right direction in shaping the future of innumerable students.
